STEAM to the Future at Hopetown

A new family friendly exhibition will open at Hopetown this July.
STEAM to the Future will take a playful look at the near and BlueSky thinking using commissioned art pieces showcasing the design and science behind the rail industry.
It follows Railway Pioneers: Celebrating the Railway Rockstars of the Past and will transport visitors into the present and beyond.
S&DR200, the 9-month festival celebrating the birth of the modern railway 200 years ago, has commissioned an immersive installation by A.A.Murakami (AKA Studio Swine). The installation is inspired by steam as a source of power, and the chance to create a 22nd century inspired locomotive using virtual reality software.
The exhibition is the second of two being held in the Exhibition Hall at Hopetown Darlington. Visitors will gain a glimpse into some of the work that is underway to ensure the railways continue for another 200 years and how the railway industry is gearing up for a revolution driven by the green technologies sector in the Tees Valley and County Durham.
Pre-booking for the exhibition is recommended. Tickets can be booked in person at the Welcome Desk in the Goods Shed, or online. The exhibition will be open from 11 July.
